STATE BOD NOTES
FEBRUARY 2022
Notes taken by Laura Rodger
The insurance proposal passed as it was written from the draft we received. The amount will be taken from the membership rebates, which will change every year. This amount is based on the number of members the state has by their year end report in December. The amount taken from the membership rebates will stay the same all year, even if the membership decreases or increases. This will start asap.
Grant writing class and officers training class will be held in Oroville, Feather River Casino, Refer to flyer from last month. Must RSVP. This will be held March 19th, 2022.
Conflict of interest/self-dealing/disclosure form, passed. Each unit's BOD must sign every year in January, then submit to Chip & Susie with the State.
Justin Guisti, is our intern this year. He is a 23 year old, w a degree in Rangeland from UNR, will discuss at March 3rd, BOD meeting for donation, which we usually donate $500.00
The Lake Tahoe region apparently wants e-bikes on their trails, despite the FS concerns. So, the FS decided to approve use of e-bikes on their trails, since they were using e-bikes anyway, although they were doing it illegally. The e-bikes battery can cause a fire if the battery is not charged correctly. Also, there are 3 classes of ebikes, ranging in speeds of 18mph to 50mph.
Troy Patton, with public lands, suggest that we coordinate closely w the FS and any other related agencies, to build a good solid reputation, such as getting things done (trail work, projects, building bridges, buildings and etc.). This is with hope that these agencies will call on us first.
The state is requesting more volunteer hours, document everything we do, miles traveled, training, office/computer work and etc.
Membership from Chip, must keep in contact w our membership on a regular/frequent basis. At the end of each month, Chip sends out a membership list, he wants us to contact those members who show EXPIRING, OR ABOUT TO EXPIRE. Basically ask them to come back, or at least find out why they won't return. At any event we put on, bring membership forms, so if a non-member wants to join, they can be encouraged to join. Once they sign up and pay, they are automatically covered by our insurance. Those who are considered youth, btwn ages 18-24, their fees are $15 per year.
Facebook accounts, it was voted on and passed that we have permission to “boost” facebook monthly.
Cross-cuts sawyers, are way down.
Troy Patton would like us to take note of the environment that is damaged by bikes, take a photo and send to him. You can send to me in the meantime.
The state still has $70,000 in a savings account, which isn't earning interest. This is the calendar money they had the units do awhile back. They are talking about investing it in some other form to earn money. They plan to talk w the PCTA with a guy named Scott, who apparently is very conservative. More later.
The next Rendezvous will he held in Temecula, March 23-25, 2023 at a 150 acre ranch called, California Ranch Company. Apparently it is in the wine country and has everything BCHC needs, but will need help from all the other units. In the planning stage now. Wants us to start thinking of a location for 2024.
The By-Laws need to be compliant with the California non-profit laws. We need to look at our job description and must be cognizant of the three following rules: Duty of care, Duty of loyality and self-dealing (disclosure).
Submissions for the BCHC newsletter will be moved up a week ahead of time (beginning of April) for the spring issue.
The MOU w the FS, protects us. It is also known as the Volunteer service agreement. Same thing, different language.
The president of BCHC, Mike Hughes, talks about respect at meetings.
